Fiends and Light: Guidance is a role-playing game. The player role-plays as the pious believer to embark on a path to collect back the dead souls of the fallen warriors from the Genesis war.
Getting the feats on the 4 steps and overcoming the scenarios on the Bridge are all about role-playing. However, the last part of the game, the placing of offerings on the platforms for the Gods and having limited tries to correct the positions of the offerings is very challenging and technical.
The first step to winning the game is naturally learning how to memorise the different words pegged to the different numbers on the squarish box as shown in the photo above.
Here are some effective memory techniques to associate specific numbers with names or words:
1. Phonetic Substitution:
Assign a letter to each number: For example, 1 could be "T," 2 could be "N," 3 could be "M," and so on.
Create a word or phrase: Combine the letters based on the numbers you want to remember.
Example: To remember the phone number 555-1234, you could create the phrase "Five Five Five - Tune Me Up."
2. Visualization:
Create vivid mental images: Associate each number with a specific image or object.
Link the images: Connect the images in a story or sequence to make them easier to recall.
Example: To remember the number 789, you could visualize a "seven" shaped like a hook, an "eight" shaped like a snowman, and a "nine" shaped like a balloon.
3. Method of Loci:
Choose a familiar location: Imagine a place you know well, like your house.
Assign a number to each location: Assign a specific number to each room or object in the location.
Visualize the association: Imagine placing the item or person associated with the number in that location.
Example: To remember the number 456, you could imagine a "four" shaped like a door (the front door of your house), a "five" shaped like a hand (hanging a picture on the wall), and a "six" shaped like a chair (sitting in the living room).
4. Peg System:
Create a list of keywords: Assign a keyword to each number from 1 to 10.
Visualize the association: Create a mental image of the keyword interacting with the item or person associated with the number.
Example: If your keyword for 1 is "one," you could imagine a "one" shaped like a hat (if you want to remember the word "hat").
5. Chunking:
Break numbers into smaller groups: Divide large numbers into smaller, more manageable chunks.
Find patterns: Look for patterns or familiar sequences within the numbers.
Example: To remember the number 1875, you could chunk it into 18 and 75.
By combining these techniques and practicing regularly, you can significantly improve your ability to recall specific numbers and their associated information.
Conclusion
The above 5 techniques are mere introductory methods to memorisation. Playing this game helps introduce you to developing these memorisation techniques.
