#1 - Color Abacus - Rules and Gameplay

General Rules

Only 1 Abacus Stand is used for both players to struggle for resources.

How to Gather Resources

Roll a D20 dice to determine position on the board.

Roll a D10 dice to determine which color of resource to appear.

Resource with corresponding color will appear on the game board

Units on game board can move once each per round, to either capture resource.

L1 and L2 belongs to one player, and L3 and L4 belongs to another player - there can only be one L1 or L2, and one L3 or L4 for every color on the abacus.

Each player has 4 units on the game board to harvest resources. Every round, only 1 unit of each player can move to gather resources - unit can only use controller once and 1 action (ie to move and capture the resource or to move one step).

After 8 turns of the movement and harvesting of resources, players have to play a stacking of numbers and resources. Note - after every round of stacking, continue with 8 turns of movement and harvesting.

Number Stacking

First, player has to start from the number 0 - meaning to give 1 resource from the ‘0’ row or to give 0 resources from the other rows of abacus.

Then is the next number 1 - meaning opposing player has to give 1 resource from the ‘1’ row or to give 1 resource from the other rows of abacus.

Then is the next number 2 - meaning first player has to give 1 resource from the ‘2’ row or to give 2 resources from other rows of abacus.

Then next is the number 3 - opposing player has to give 1 resource from the ‘3’ row or to give 3 resources from the other rows of abacus.

This pattern continues until the number reaches 9, or whenever a player can no longer produce the required amount or type of resources.

The penalty for breaking the chain till 9 or cannot fulfil 9 means that 1 unit is banished to the bridge.

Banished Unit Gameplay

The banished unit can then proceed to move forward to the other side of the game board independently of the other units (ie the banished unit can move 1 step per turn on the bridge without penalising on the steps of the units on the game board).

When the banished unit reaches the other side of the opposing player game board, the banished unit is entitled to 1 movement per turn or 1 gathering action per turn. The banished unit cannot move the platforms using controller. If there are more than 1 banished unit, it is also only 1 movement or 1 gathering action per turn. (ie without penalising on the steps of the units on the game board).

Whenever a banished unit gains resources from the opposing game board, L1 becomes L2 or L3 becomes L4 - this signifies that the resource has a 2X efficiency - for eg. when playing the stacking numbers part, 1 resource becomes 2 resources.

The above shows the basic setup. [Please show how to count the 20 positions on the board].

A D20 dice roll shows the number 5, setting the position of the resource in place through the counting method.

A D10 dice roll shows 6, which is the purple abacus row. The resource of the corresponding purple colour is then placed onto the board.

In a scenario (see the blue marble at the top right platform) where the resource is not attainable through movement of a unit, the player can choose to use the controller to move the platforms first, then with a strategic positioning use a unit to reach out to the blue marble resource.

A D20 dice roll shows the number 3. Following the counting method, the position on the game board is set.

A D10 dice roll shows the number 7, meaning that it is a transparent marble from row 7 that is to be placed onto that position.

When the transparent marble lands onto a position where a friendly unit is, it gets automatically gathered and the resource addition is reflected on the abacus stand.

This process of gathering resources takes place for 8 rounds, before the numbers stacking portion of this game starts. Please see below video for an example of how numbers stacking works.

Player starts with 0 resources bar, using 1 white resource to start off the number stacking. Opposing player then uses 1 red row 1 resource bar.

Player doesn't have row 2 resource, hence has to use 2 resources from other rows to make up for it. He used the bottom 2 rows because it is unlikely the game will reach there.

Opposing player does not have row 3 resource, hence he used 3 resources from the top 2 bars to tide through, since the resources from the first two rows are no longer needed as the number stacking continues.

Player then uses 1 row 4 resource to continue.

Opposing player uses 1 row 5 resource to pass back the baton.

Player then uses 1 row 6 resource to continue.

Opposing player is stuck at 7 as he does not have a row 7 resource, nor enough (7) resources to continue the number stacking.

Opposing player thus loses and has to banish one of his units to the bridge.

Opposing player can choose which unit to banish onto the bridge, as shown above.

After 4 rounds of resource gathering, the banished unit managed to get to the opposing game board. When a red resource appeared in front of the banished unit, he gets to it first before the other units got to the resource.

As it is a banished unit, the red color row shifts it's nature from L3 to L4, meaning for every resource obtained, it has X2 the effect. Player thus gets two red resources instead of one.

The game ends when all 4 units are banished from a player’s game board.
