#1 Chase the Livestock - Rules and Gameplay

Azazeel's Hunger

Demon lord's hunger gnaws,

Minions search for livestock's meat,

Sentient creatures flee.

Pigs, sheep, horses, cows,

All refuse to be devoured,

Determination gleams.

"We won't be dinner!" they cry,

With hooves and horns, they fight back,

Azazeel's hunger grows.

Demon Lord Azazeel, after the fight with Queen Seraphina, is very hungry and is looking for food. He has ordered his servant minions to scour Planerium for sentient livestock. Will Azazeel’s hunger be satisfied, or will the livestock prevail and find their freedom?

Chase the Livestock is a game where the minions (represented by the green units shown in the photo below) chase after the livestock (represented by the marble red units shown in the photo below). Livestock have to go all around the 2 game boards and the bridge to escape from the minions, including using towers to delay or attack the minions, and using the remote controllers to control the movement of the platforms to get away from the minions.

The above photo is a standard set-up for Chase the Livestock. The player representing the minions can only control the green units. The player representing the minions can control the red units, and also the two remote controllers to control the platforms.

The game starts with two minions and three livestock.

The different colours of the marbles represent different functions.

Blue marbles - used by minions to power-up and move an additional step forward in order to catch the livestock. In one round of the game, player gets 4 blue marbles.

Red marbles - used by livestock to break free from the clutches from the minions and escape. In one round of the game, player gets 4 red marbles.

Green marbles - used by livestock to run faster and move an additional step forward in order to escape from the minions. In one round of the game, player gets 4 green marbles.

White marbles - they represent gold coins. Every marble is 5 gold pieces. Livestock gets to earn 1 white marble every round, which when accumulated can be used to buy towers to fend off the minions.

Orange marbles - they represent experience points. Every marble is 5 EXP. Minions earn 1 marble for every livestock caught and the minions can gain new abilities when they level up.

Now we look at gameplay that only involves one livestock and one minion.

NOTE: For one round, all the minions and livestock must move before the round ends. The below videos are for illustration of the gameplay between one livestock and one minion for easier understanding of the game.

The minion makes his move towards the livestock. Note that a minion can move across two spaces in one round.

The livestock proceeds to escape from the minion by moving the platform then embarking onto the next platform. Note that a livestock can only move one space across the platforms or the bridge or the path.

After one round ends, the player representing the livestock earns one white marble, which is money to be used to buy towers later.

The minion proceeds to chase after the livestock again. When the minion embarked onto the platform, he can only catch the livestock if he has one movement across space left. Here, the minion moved once on the path, then once onto the platform, hence his movements are exhausted this round.

The livestock then goes back to the original platform, and this time, instead of moving his own position, he controlled the platform to move the minion away from him, buying precious time for itself.

After this round ends, livestock earns another white marble.

Minion then proceeds to move down two spaces. Then he uses one blue marble token as an additional action to catch the livestock. Livestock then uses one red marble to break free from the clutches of the minion. Hence both minion and livestock remained in position.

Livestock then proceeds to move off the platform by moving once, then using a green marble token as an additional action to land onto the path. Livestock then uses the money earned from the past two rounds to buy a tower. The tower then serves as an obstruction towards the minion.

Minion then proceeds to move once, then use the remaining action to destroy the tower.

The above videos are an illustration of how the chasing of livestock works. Note that in the actual gameplay, all the minions and livestock must move before the round ends.

General rule 1

  • Livestock can only perform 1 action (eg.move one step, move the servo motor or build a block) per turn

  • Minions can move 1 step per turn plus an additional action per turn

General rule 2

  • Game starts with 3 or 4 livestock, and 2 minions

  • At the 5th round, 2 livestock and 1 minion will be added to the board

  • At the 8th round, 1 minion will be added to the board

  • Game ends on the 10th round or 12th round as agreed between players

From herein below, let's talk about more advanced rules for more complex gameplay.

The photo above shows the different kinds of towers a livestock can build. Here is a summary:

  • Grey Tower - Basic Block - Costs 2 White Marbles - able to endure 1 attack from minion

  • Light Teal Tower - Advanced Block – Costs 2 White Marbles - can only buy it when one livestock is caught - able to endure 2 attacks from minion

  • Orange Tower Block – Attack Block - Costs 2 White Marbles - able to attack minion once - minion will die if attacked twice in a same round (meaning livestock has to accumulate all 4 white marbles first before considering using 2 orange tower blocks to attack a minion. An orange tower block will disappear after it attacks once.

  • Green Tower Ice Block – Costs 3 White Marbles - Freezes minion in place for it's turn next round.

  • Red Tower Fire Block – Costs 4 White Marbles - Able to swap positions with a minion should it be activated. - able to endure 1 attack from minion.

Below are some example videos of how the towers can be used.

The livestock expends 2 white marbles to purchase an orange attack block, which can attack the minion once. However, the minion won't die from one attack only. Hence, the livestock uses a green marble token for an extra action, to purchase another orange attack block. The second attack kills off the minion.

There is a pincer attack from two minions, one from the bridge and one from the bottom right platform. To buy time (at least survive for another round), the livestock purchases a light teal advanced block using 2 white marbles to block off one minion. The livestock then uses a green marble for an extra action of buying another light teal advanced block to fend off the minion at the bottom right.

As the light teal advanced block needs 2 attacks to be destroyed, it buys precious time for the livestock player.

Here, the livestock purchases using 3 marbles to get a green ice block. The green ice block freezes the minion for one round, hence the minion can't move nor attack the livestock next round.

Here, there is a red fire block on the bottom left, constructed by a livestock which previously got captured. The existing livestock can swap positions with the red fire block to buy time before the minions from the pincer attack catch up again.

Different Livestock Abilities

There are also different kinds of livestock that a player can choose, which grants the livestock different benefits. Below is a summary:

  • Sheep – can shed wool to block one attack from minion – can do it once per game

  • Horse – able to gallop and charge forward one extra step – once per game

  • Pig – no special ability, for player to show off he is skilled at this game

  • Cow – able to counter attack the minion, dealing one attack, cow will be caught if minion survives the attack, as minion can endure two attacks before perishing – once per game
